Read !xx Before You Act: What to Check in an Unfamiliar Room
Two Anne co-op rooms can be completely different configs. !xx / !x shows the match actually loaded. If the prompt disagrees, trust the server.
Do not only read the room name
Server names often just say Anne co-op or Campaign. The same machine can run standard AnneHappy, Hardcore, Shotgun Hardcore, Not0721, and Versus. After you join, !xx or !x shows the match actually loaded.
The web guide lists votable cfgs by family. Mode IDs match the !match menu. To switch, !rmatch first, then !match.
After the prompt appears, check these
- Mode name:Campaign, Anne co-op, or Versus. Anne version or vanilla. Vanilla campaign will not spawn on the Anne co-op timeline.
- Players:Versus needs both sides matched. Suffixes like zm1v1, nextmod2v2, eq3v3 mean join at that size.
- Limits:Weapons, downs, supplies, whether solo is allowed. These decide your night more than a few extra SI.
- High-pressure names:If Himiko, Except, WTF, or Neri appears, prepare for an experienced game.
If the page or chat prompt disagrees with !xx, trust the match actually loaded and the admin notice. Right after a vote, prompts can lag a beat. Type !xx again.
How much the name tells you
The cfg names follow patterns, and recognising them saves half your questions.
| If you see | It usually means |
|---|---|
| Contains 1v1 / 2v2 / 3v3 | A reduced-size versus config; both sides must match |
| Contains hardcore | Both margin for error and supplies tighten — not just more specials |
| Contains shotgun | Primaries limited to shotguns; long-range support weakens |
| Contains alone / 1vht | Solo or single-class drills, not a regular co-op round |
| Contains nopunish / noob / ez | A relaxed variant, good for bringing newcomers |
| Contains except / wtf / himiko | High-pressure variants; prepare as for a veteran round |
But the name is a clue, not a guarantee. Parameters can vary widely within one family, and what !xx shows is the final word.
What if !xx does nothing
- Nothing is shown
- No match is loaded in this room and it is running the server default. This is common right after a map change, or after an empty server reverts to its default map.
- What it shows does not match how it feels
- The prompt lags a beat right after a vote — wait a few seconds and run it again. If it still does not match, the previous match probably was not cleanly unloaded with !rmatch.
- The command itself does nothing
- Try !x. If neither responds, this server may not have the plugin enabled — asking in chat is the fastest route.
If you cannot read it, do not panic. Play a regular campaign round and watch how densely the specials arrive and how generous the supplies are — that gives you a feel for it too.
Ask if you cannot read it — but ask well
People in the room are usually happy to explain, provided your question is answerable. "What mode is this?" asks someone to start from scratch, and usually nobody takes it. Phrase it like these and you will almost always get a reply:
- "!xx says annehappy_hardcore — that's hardcore, right?" You bring what you read; they only have to confirm or correct.
- "Can you shoot while down in this room?" One specific rule, answerable in a word.
- "First time on this config — anything I should watch for?" It states your level so they know how deep to go.
- "Is now a good time to switch modes?" You are asking about timing, not knowledge.
Conversely, if nobody answers, let it go. Play a round and observe three things — how dense the specials are, how generous the supplies are, and whether you can get up on your own after going down. That is enough to orient yourself.
Stay or switch
First visit, regular campaign, vanilla campaign, or standard AnneHappy are fine to stay. Hardcore, Not0721 high pressure, Versus: confirm the room is playing at that intensity.
To switch, ask first, then !rmatch, !match. Use !inf only in rooms that allow the SI team. !join to take a survivor slot, !away to step out.
